So NOW the Cons think that prorogue is a bad word?

Harper can prorogue Parliament in the middle of night on Christmas eve to escape Commons scrutiny and  to stack the Senate and Cons think that the sun continues to shine?  But let McGuinty give a weeks notice to prorogue for a whole week and the crap hits the rotating device!

And who is leading the vitriolic charge?  None other than the MPP from Nepean Carleton, the often misunderstood but never missed in a crowd, L MacLeod.

By the way, has anyone even seen Lisa's federal buddy, the Perfect PP?  For a guy who lives in the riding, we sure don't see him very often.    I wonder if he still has place on the Market?

How dumb is Poilievre?

I reported last week that Pierre "I got my pension.. yippee" Poilievre, MP, had an ad in a recent local rag touting the Conservative Home Renovation Tax Credit. This came on the heels of the Big Cheque issue that even PM Harpo called wrong.

Now PP has decided that he needs to take his rhetoric directly to home, I guess just in case you do not read the rags. In a letter addressed to my house the smiling "Results for Himself" self-promoter says it again.

This time I will send the document to the Ethics Commissioner.

Congrats to PP

A Youtube video from Rick Mercer has gone viral on the web.  The short clip offers congratulations to Con hatchet-man Pierre Something-or-other who just hit a personal milestone. He has lasted long enough as an MP to get a full pension -- and he is only 31 years old.  Congrats PP.  When you hit 65 you will get an indexed pension worth millions of dollars.  And in the in between 34 years you will collect countless more millions as the greatest MP to ever sit in the Commons.

So just keep you head low in the House, swear a bit more in committees, insult a few more First Nations persons and maybe a few minorities, show up at the opening of an envelope (especially one with a cheque in it) and you will have a long and prosperous life because the sheep in Nepean Carleton will keep on electing you.

Thinking people recognize the deceipt

So here's the thing -- Harper and Iggy agree, before the summer recess, to strike a committee to see if there was some kind of compromise over Employment Insurance.

The committee meets a few times with the Liberal members submitting ideas and suggestions.  What did the Cons do?  They submitted not even one shred of paper.  They drank the coffee and ate the donuts but did not do the work.

Why?  Did they not have any ideas?  Were they just wasting time?  Did the donuts put them to sleep?

The answer is that they were being deceitful.  Two weeks after the Liberals gave up trying to engage the Cons, the Cons release a position on EI that has bought off the "Socialists and the Separatists" (Harper's term).  Did they not have any idea about their proposal during the summer?  Was it dreamed up after the committee last met?

Or were they just thumbing their nose at Canadians?

Oh, and by the way, Nepean-Carleton's, "Results for Himself", MP was on that committee.

Time to come out of the closet, PP

The tiny perfect MP for Nepean Carleton has some 'splainin' to do.

How is his government going to pay off the $156 billion in debt that be lumped onto Canadian thanks to their spending spree?

Tell us Pierre: will you cut services?  Will you cut transfers to provinces?  Will you sell off all the country's assets?  Will you raise taxes?

Or will you just run for the hills to avoid the question?

To the back of the bus with Pierre

In all their stupid attack ads, the Cons accuse Ignatieff of just visiting.  They say that spending time outside the country is a bad thing.

I have travelled all across the world, lived in the US, worked in Asia, South America and Europe. One of the things that I learn when I go abroad is the etiquette and sensibilities of my host country.

I know that I do not show the bottoms of my feet in parts of Asia.  I know that Brits do not like to be called Limies and I certainly know that tar-babies is considered a pejorative terms in many parts of the world, including the US south.

Maybe the Cons, including our local MP, should quit and spend a bit more time on sensitivity training and getting to know the world.

Hyper-partisans beware

I went to a Con love-in last night where the two poster-children for hyper-partisanship took turns sniping at Liberals.  Well snipe is not quite right.  They were close to being vicious.

I got home about 9 PM and picked up my latest book read.  It is called Blue Thunder, The truth about Conservatives from MacDonald to Harper.  I am not sure about the title.  Thunder is really just the sounds of the Gods bowling.  Maybe Bob Plamondon is trying to tell us that politics is a game to Cons?

Anyway, I read a small passage that could not have been better focused on this evenings spectacle and in fact what is floating around the Hill and Queen's Park these days, including those lame attack ads from the Cons in Ottawa.

Prime Minister Robert Borden, a Con PM for whom I have great respect, was trying to steer Canada through the Great War.  The Conscription Act made his hide as popular in Quebec as syphilis.  He tried to create a coalition government with the Liberals which resulted in something called the Union government.  While he was trying to win over Liberal leader Laurier, he made the following comment:

"Political partisanship is closely allied with absolute stupidity."

Maybe Lisa and PP should read the book?

MysteryMan Subpoenaed by Parliamentary Committee

Ottawa, April 1, 2009 - An Ottawa-base blogger, who goes by the handle of MysteryMan, appeared in front of parliamentary finance committee this morning to answer charges that he claims to know what to do about the current Canadian economic mess but refuses to elaborate on his ideas.

Nepean Carleton Con MP, Perfect PP, led off the questioning by demanding to know the real identity of MysteryMan.  "Unless we know exactly who you are, how are we going to ruin your reputation?" demanded PP.  MysteryMan responded with a quiet, "Piss off, PP."  The response drew gasps of horror from the MP and guffaws from his colleagues and the press.  Not to be upstaged, PP then demanded that MysteryMan remove the Clark Gable mask he was wearing.  MysteryMan responded with,"What mask?  This is how I look after I shower.  You should try it once in a while."

The thrust and parry went back and forth between the two individuals for almost 15 minutes, at the end of which PP, completely frustrated and almost weeping, asked the chairperson for a 25 minute adjournment.  The chairperson, responded with, "Piss off, PP."

April Fool's.

PP calls the kettle black

With all the crap that is going on within and around the Federal Con party, I would suggest that the diminutive MP from Nepean Carleton spend a bit more time in self-examination rather than trying to find problems where none exist.

At point is the suggestion from a Liberal lawyer Alf Apps, who is supposedly the next President of the Federal Liberals, that the current funding laws would allow me to donate $1,100 to the federal Liberal Party (the legal limit of donations) and then also donate $1,100 to the leadership campaign of Micky Ignatieff. Since Micky is unopposed, supposedly his campaign costs would be very low, so any balances in his war chest would be given back to the party. This means that, with this loop hold, I could donate $2,200 in 2009.

Let's get a few things straight at the outset. Apps did not suggest that I do this deed, he merely pointed out what I already knew. It is not illegal to do this but it would be a questionable stretching of the rules. I know that. Apps knows that. And so does anyone else with a rudimentary knowledge of political finance.

Which brings us to The Perfect PP. He sees bedbugs where none exist. Rather than asking for any details from Apps, he runs to the nearest CTV microphone to blurt, "The purpose of the law is to prevent donations over $1,100 to any political party, not to allow powerful insiders to flow an extra donation through a leadership campaign into the party. That's what they're doing."

A little birdy told me that PP does not really think that Libs are doing something wrong - he just frosted that he didn't think of it first.

But just to be safe, maybe PP should submit a private members bill to limit donations of any kind, be it leadership campaigns, local association fees, election funding or just plain memberships to a maximum of $1,100 per year.

I bet he hasn't got the gut!

Hill Times On-side?

It is not often that the Hill Times comes out for a Speaker's Ruling, especially if the ruling does not favour Cons. Such was the case, however, this week.

In its editorial, dated March 16th, the Times applauded the ruling by the Speaker to disallow highly partisan insulting shots at Members-opposite during the One-minute Members Statements. It was not just Cons spitting at Libs or NDPers pissing on anything that moved, it was a problem with all parties.

So the Speaker rules that personal attacks are "intended to be provocative", "clearly create disorder" and are "unparliamentary".

Seems right. If you want to act like a schoolyard bully or just a potty mouth, take it outside where liable laws are enforced.

But what does the MP for Nepean Carleton, the Perfect PP, have to say on the issue? He claims that the ruling stifles debate. "Part of democracy is promoting ideas. The other part of democracy is pointing out the flaws in some of those ideas," spews PP.

I am not one to stifle democracy, so here is my advice to Perfect PP. Buzz off!

PP does it again

The voters of Nepean Carleton have a real decision to make in the next federal election.  They have to ask themselves if they want an MP who works for them or one who works for himself.

After months of being AWOL during the Ottawa bus strike, The Mighty Mouth of MPs, Pierre Poilievre, has decided that his brand of being helpful is to slag the Premier of the province.  Rather than making suggestions to cure this federal morass, he prefers to play politics.

Federal morass, you ask?  How can a bus strike be a federal issue.  This is the nub of the issue.  Because a few OC Transpo buses cross over into Quebec, the service is an inter provincial service... thus falls under federal jurisdiction.  There are three municipal bus services that fall under the feds - Ottawa, Gatineau and Windsor.

You want to be helpful, PP?  Why don't you suggest that the the law be changed to make the bus servies provincial responsibilities notwithstanding the inter provincial/national components.  You make all sorts of exception, including work and safety rules (the pin point of the OC dispute), why not make an exception here; get rid of the problem off Rona's and John's desk and let us get back to worrying about the economy.

PP has been found!!!!

Our beloved MP, the inscrutable, huggable, moppet-of-the-hill, Pierre Poilievre- the Perfect PP to most - has been sighted in the riding.  It took the in depth journalistic instincts of the Barrhaven Something-or-other, to find that PP has been turning up at the opening of every envelope with his own photographer in tow.  He then sends the photos to the local rags.

Now I am not a conspiracy theorist but it is strange that PP is wearing the same clothes in every shot and is flashing the same goofy grin.  Is he alive or just embalmed?  I will be watching CPAC to see if he shows up in the Commons.

Feds to get involved?

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the Con government is a reincarnation of the Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight"?

They bring in an economic update in November that outrages the country and have to shut down Parliament to save their skins.

Only last week, Labour Minister Rona Ambrose, her of the big hair, asserted that she would do nothing to legislate OC Transpo drivers back to work because she wanted them to work it out at the negotiation table.  One week later she is threatening back-to-work legislation because the parties can't work it out at the negotiating table.  It took her a week to figure that out while this strike has been going on for two months?  Or was it that a Liberal MP Belanger pushed for and got an emergency debate on the issue?

When you have no clue how to swim, you just lunge at anything that floats.

Rona can't swim.

And where, oh where, is PP?  Rumour is that he was seen at the Parliamentary food trough trying to bulk up for the next election in June.

Where, oh where, has our PP gone?

Parliament perogued last November.  In the meantime has anyone seen or even heard from our wonderful Member of Disfunction?  Where is he?  What has he been up to?

He must be real busy.  He hasn't even had the time to update his web site.  It still lists all-candidates meetings from the October 2008 election.

What is he thinking about the transit strike?  Wait a minute, maybe he is caught out in the cold walking from Barrhaven to Parliament Hill.  Can't be, he would have made it by now.

We know where his buddy Screamer Baird is on the issue of the transit strike.  He has been hiding under his bed emerging only to tell CFRA, "I know nothing.  I see nothing."  I wonder if PP is also hiding under Screamer's bed?

I hope that PP makes it to the Commons on Monday in time for the opening of the next session.  He might be needed to open the front doors that have rusted over during the Cons' strike.

Geez, I hope he is alright.  I am worried about him.

How much is that liar in the Parliament? The one with the forked tongue.

With an apology to Bob Merrill and Doris Day, you are supposed to sing the title of this entry.

In one of our local rags, the dynamic duo of Parliament Hill, the effervescent Screamer Baird and the ever-huggable Perfect PP. teamed up to call the opposition coalition, a group that had the temerity - the utter gall - to challenge the Cons right to screw up our democracy, as undemocratic.

The coalition, according to PP, will bring in the Green Shift carbon tax and take away the Cons cherished $100 per kid subsidy.  Never mind that the coalition is on record saying that they won't do those things, PP, none-the-less, spews the garbage.   Baird calls the coalition "irresponsible" and "an attack on our democracy".  Time to go back to school Screamer so that you might learn a bit about our form of government in Canada.

If anything was undemocratic, it was that the GG granted the Cons a peroguement of parliament for no other reason that they begged for it, lest they lose their cushy limousines and jets.

The Cons are concerned that the coalition might run a deficit to bail out problem industries in Canada.  Can't do it, says PP.  However in the Citizen, the senior local rag, PPs financial boss, Hon. J Flaherty, says that a $6 billion bailout of the Big 3 automakers can be done.  It will put the government into deficit but it can be done.

What the hell is the difference between the coalition putting us into deficit and the coalition doing it?  Answer please PP and Screamer.

No time to gloat?

The awakening of Harper is a time to rejoice in Canada. There might yet be a chance for democracy.

It would be easy to say that Harper and his Gang that Couldn't Govern were brought down by their own hubris. But I choose the high road and refrain.

It would be easy to characterize the Cons as the only people in the world that could find the I in Team. But I refrain.

It would be easy pickings to suggest that an MP like Perfect PP in Nepean Carleton is right to hide under his duvet cover until this Con stupidity blows over, lest his reputation as "all things to few people" be tarnished. But I will refrain.

I could gloat over the fact that the Cons were hoisted on their own petard, but I will refrain.

What I will not refrain to do is point out to all those self-righteous Con and Libertarian supporters who mock Liberal supporters that "what goes around - comes around." Who has the laugh now?

It must be a typo!

It was with nervous excitement that I read the Ottawa Citizen and the Globe and Mail this morning. I was looking to see what plum of a cabinet job was given to Nepean-Carleton's own Perfect PP, MP. After all, PP won his riding with the second highest vote tally in the entire country. He was a stalwart Defender of the Faith in the first Con MinGov and a defacto-leader of political jihad against all things not blue. He would at least be Minister of Propaganda.

But no, sorry to say, PP did not make the cut. He was edged out by women and minorities, especially one that was FN from the frozen north. How's that for just deserts? Rejected after giving the best 3 minutes of his young life - how can he hold his head up after being turfed into the Hill's refuse bin by Uncle Stephen?

It not often I feel sympathy for Con politicos but I will make an exception this time for PP. He is a sad little person but at least he has the bar at the Legion to fall forward on.

On the bright side, PP - you are in good company with the likes of Gary "Keene-killer" Lunn, who was demoted to the Minister of State for Running and Jumping.
