Tim Powers is The Con Sage and the greatest thinker to come out of Newfoundland since... Rex Murphy. He is also a wonderfully witty writer. Take his most recent missive as an example. In it he figures that Iggy needs a bigger hug than the one he got from some day-care kids to whom he was reading. Hillarious stuff, eh what?
He then goes on to compare Iggy to the boy who cried wolf. Hahaha. Side splitting repartee that. His old boss John "Joke a Minute" Crosbie must be spilling his martini when Timmy opens his mouth.
According to Tim, before he got into politics and business, he used to play high-end competitive rugby. Must of had his fair share of concussions. Could explain his illusions of grandeur.
What an ass!

A little unsolicited advice to NFLD Liberals
Hey Judy and Andrew, hate to have to tell you this but you are federal MPs not provincial MPs. The budget that you will vote against is a budget for all of Canada, not just Newfoundland and Labrador. It may be true that N-L will lose some future money thanks to the Harper Cons but let's not take it out on Canadians.
Vote for the budget with very public reservations. Tell Canadians that you are doing this for them. That will give you the credibility to then fight for the rights of Newfoundlanders.
Reality bites. Harper is a crook and Cons are Harper lemnings. They will not change teir ways before the budget vote, Why give them the satisfaction of having a budget for Canadians defeated by Liberals. And kid yourselves. If the vote fails it will be put on the back of Liberals. Flakee and his Dipper and Dull-garcon's BQers are already on the record of being against Canadians. Are you going to add your names to that list?

Talking about panic!
Here is the message coming out of the Cons with respect to Newfoundland and Labrador: “Voting ABC (Anything-But-Conservatives is a Danny Williams initiative) will hurt Ottawa , but it will hurt Newfoundland even more. Isolating ourselves from Canada is not an option.”
Too bad that Harper didn't think of that before he decided to treat NL like a puppy by smacking it in the nose for not fetching his favourite blue sweater.
How can not having a Con MP in Ottawa hurt them? Harper can always name a Senator from NL and put him in the cabinet. He is quite experienced in that activity.
And anyway, what does it matter? Harper and the Cons are struggling to a minority government so he will just quick snap another election anyway. After all, if you don't give it to him when he asks, he will hound you until you do. Just like a kitty, bawling for kibble.

Harper's latest bloopers
Former PM Harper went to Newfoundland on Saturday and told an assemblage of the converted that Danny Williams, the Premier of NL with an 80% approval rating, that Danny was a liar.

He said Williams is lying about a closed-door conversation the two men had in 2007 – one where the Premier says Harper told him “he didn't needNewfoundland and Labrador to win an election.”
Harper's revision was, “I never said that at all. What I said was the contrary: I told Premier Williams some time ago I believe we're going to win the next election … and I wantNewfoundland and Labrador to have a place in our government."
This is the PM that will do and say anything to win an election, even calling an illegal election. I think that I know whom I believe.
Also this is the former PM who said in 2002, talking about maritimers, "There is a dependence in the region that breeds a culture of defeatism."
He then moved the campaign on to tell more Con devotees in Frederictonthat the country is more conservative but not quite as conservative as his Conservatives. Therefore to win power he finds it necessary to "water down" some of his plans. Want to bet that if he even won a majority government the water in his platform would be exported to theUS ?

You go, Danny
Da ting I like about Newfoundlanders is dat dey call a spade a frickin' shovel, dey does. OK Danny Williams doesn't speak that way but he does not mince his words if you cross him up.
I know a lot of Newfoundlanders and one thing they share in abundance is honesty - and courage of their convictions, Danny demonstrates that in spades. I may be one of those Ontario guys but I know that to become a friend of a Newfoundlander is as easy as keeping your word.
The Atlantic Accord, lower Churchill and the agreement on equalization payments were high on the list of topics that Harper has screwed Newfoundlanders and Labradorans on in the past couple of years. And as Danny puts it: "This all happened under a minority government. What in heaven's name will happen if he gets a majority?"
In a speech today he went on to say: "Even without a majority, he has cut funding for minorities, cut funding for literacy, cut funding to students, volunteers, museums and arts and culture groups right across the country [and] his government cut funding to women's groups and … actually went so far as to remove the federal mandate to advance equality for women."
He also termed Harper's campaign as the "Blue Shaft".
